Verdict
The Tamron is able to deliver good sharpness on our FX test camera, at least when stopped down, but it is not free of issues for sure. The border and corner performance at large apertures is poor, vignetting is very pronounced at large apertures and even stopped down at the wide end. CAs are very pronounced, too.
The build quality is ok, but nothing to rave about.
However, given the low price on the used market, it still qualifies as a cheap alternative to current ultra wide lenses, especially if the emphasize is on occasional use of the dramatic perspective the short focal length can deliver. Stopped down, the lens can be used for landscape shots, where it doesn't perform insanely great, but still ok. One needs to be aware of the lenses issues and limitations, though.
