Verdict
The Tokina AF 300mm f/4 AT-X delivers very good resolution across the frame straight from the maximum aperture. Distortion and vignetting are no issues for most subjects, while CAs are a bit on the high side when stopped down.
The bokeh quality is very smooth, however background highlights (and high contrast subjects in general) suffer a bit from rather high bokeh fringing.
The build quality is excellent, even though the lens is rather compact and light-weight for a 300mm f/4 prime. AF requires a camera with built-in screw drive. The AF speed is quite fast.
So, in summary, a very well performing lens and, given the usually very low prices, no doubt a bargain. If you can find one...
