ProMost of the best features of pro level bodies (depending on brand): motordrive speed, auto-focus speed, shutter speed, mirror lock-up, battery pack with vertical controls, lots of custom functions, good viewfinder, auto-focus point selection, eye control -- without the weather sealing and EXTRA WEIGHT that most of us don't need. Really good performer!
ContraSome of these same pro level features (depending on brand) that are missing and I would like to have are (in order of importance): more vertical controls on battery pack, spot metering, infrared focus assistance, bigger/brighter viewfinder with interchangeable screens -- but none of these are deal breakers and the camera performs VERY WELL without any of these.
ThoughtsI was a long time holdout on my old Canon FD system which consisted of a T90 and an A-1. I had a dozen lenses -- one "L" series and the rest that actually predated the "L" designation...beautiful glass.

When I was finally ready to switch over to auto-focus, I realized that the times had passed me by in a big way. Today's advanced amateur bodies outperform my old pro level bodies by a country mile. Because of the heavy glass I use (have been purchasing in the EOS line), I was hoping to get decent performance and still reduce weight compared to my heavy old FD system where possible...like in the body. The Elan does everything well and some things perfectly. My "Contras" above are by no means a big deal. For example, I don't miss the spotmeter that much because the camera's metering is great and usually my experience or a patch of green grass or something will get me the exposure reading I need. Sometimes I pull out the spot meter, but rarely. I've noticed that we often stress over details on a product info sheet, but don't really need those items or even remember them when in the field. This is a GREAT CAMERA that is well worth the relatively low price!
