ProSolid constuction take pictures anywhere in any temperature
perfect focus every time ( and quick)
Perfect metering for every occasion in programme and manually selected
ContraBit Heavy but its good points make it that way and it makes it easy to steady.
ThoughtsRobust nice looking camera. that would grace a press photographer, studio portrait photographer, Grad Prix Racing Photographer, coupled to Minoltas suberb optics a real winner if I ever saw one.

ProThe brick. This camera is very straightforward to use. Most of everything you will use is on a dial that you can control while your eye is buried in the viewfinder. AF is fast and crisp. Great 100% and BRIGHT viewfinder.
Flash integration and wireless flash.
I've had this camera for nearly three years and I love it, just wish that there were a Maxxum 8 with the construction of the 9 and the new features of the 7.
ContraNoisy. (shutter and DOF-preview)
Can't auto-bracket while in timer based MLU.
Differences in 5400HS and 5600HS flash integration is a pain.
Heavy ...but this is comforting in a way.
ThoughtsA great serious camera for serious photographers.

ProHave had this camara foor over a year now. Working this camera is second nature in 5 min.
Workt with the Niko f100 and F5. Both great camera's. The D9 right up there.
ContraNO USM/HSM lenses (jet)
ThoughtsBuild like a tank, fast, viewvinder is great, flash works perfect, metering dito. Easy to get used to.

ProWhere do I start. This camera replaced my stolen F4 Nikon. I'd been looking at the F5 but decided against pushing buttons to turning knobs. This is a camera built like a tank. Fast AF, 100% viewfinder (which takes a little getting used to) which is fantastic. The flash system is the best I#ve used, particularly in wireless mode. And, the Vertical Control Grip option lets you use a range of power sources, from lithium to standard old triple-As. A travel photographer's dream. I'm using it for everything from the aforementioned to commercial shoots, weddings, editorial. Never, ever, let me down. Five out of five!!!!
ContraHeavy but it builds your muscles up. Limited support ie hire of long lenses (you'll just have to save up).
ThoughtsHad this camera a little over 2 weeks before the 5400HS Flash system arrived. Was booked to shoot a PR job that morning. No time to read manuals. Bang, on goes the flash all auto, camera all auto ... bounced flash and voila. Some of the best rendered shots I've taken indoors under pressure. These days I don't even raise a sweat.

ProBuilt like a tank with quality materials. No plastic toy here. Excellent metering. Great feel. Easy to use, that is, user friendly. Mated with the Minolta 24-85 lens, it is a fantastic camera.
ContraA bit heavy, but one gets used to that.
ThoughtsThe best SLR I have owned. Before buying this camera I looked at the Nikon F100 and Canon EOS3- the Max. 9 beats them hands down. I have owned this camera for 2 years and would buy another one tomorrow if I needed to replace it. However, I think it will last forever.

Pronice feeling to hold it in the hand, every button is on the right place, actually i like it, no even love this camera but...
Contra... taking a pictures is so noisy this disturbs me especially by the depth of field preview, every time i press this button all people around me are watching and the picture is distroyed, awful. ..And the aperture dial is locked when the DOF button is pressed. i really appreciate the old cameras on which i could press DOF and close or open the aperture and i could see the difference instantly...
Thoughtsthe data function is very useful

ProI have the Maxxum 9 with the 5600Hs flash.
When putting the camera on A (aparature mode), when the A= 5.6 the flash firing is O.K. (see ok)
on the flash. when using A= 16 , I am not able to have the O.K.
2- The flash manual says when putting the flash on The AUTO & ON should be displayed.
in my case only the ON is being displayed so I assume that I have always the fill-in mode for the flash. So at A=5.6 the fill-in is perfect but not at A = 16.
Is it possible to have the flash in AUTO & ON ???

ThoughtsIt is the best camrea that I known. I think it is much better than F5 or EOS-1v and so on. It is a landmark of minolta. If you want to have professional camera, it is the best choice.

ProSolid build...solid feel
Simple, analog controls
Bright viewfinder
Accurate meter
Built-in flash
ContraExposure comp. dial can be a bit hard to read
ThoughtsThis is a top-notch professional caliber body. The control layout minimizes the tedious button pushing inherent in most present day SLR's. Highly recommended.

ProWhere to begin? Build quality, handling both terrific. Pop up flash is nice touch, despite what nose-in-the-air types say. Vertical grip is outstanding
ContraLens selection needs upgrading to provide IS/VR-type function and less so, USM/Silent Wave focusing.
ThoughtsAll told, a great camera.

ThoughtsSolid nuts and bolts camera.
All features one is likely to use are on "classic" switches and knobs.
Bright/Crisp 100% area viewfinder.
Fast AF. (compared to other Minolta's)

Fully satisfied.

ThoughtsI knew that this Dynax 9 is the best camera in this planet since I've tried other brand with unsatisfied results.
The optics is unbeatable, only could be defeated by German optics.
The tech is so sophisticated but very simple and friendly.
Highly recomended for the smart person who realizes about the importance of the good price-to-performance ratio.

Thoughtswatch out for the rubber on the custom flap - it comes unglued after prolonged sweaty palms feeling it.

rub it down and re-apply with epoxy resin, and it's sorted.

D9 is a great weapon, it makes a nasty dent in a rioters head when they get in your way in civil disturbance.

splendid, but needs a cheaper option on the data back, or could do with and update to the features of the new D7's back panel

ThoughtsWonderful camera, brings everything you might need. The only negative thing I noticed is that the dial on the right side cannot be locked (bracketing etc.) Should not be sold without the vertical grip. The best things are: the possibilty to switch from exhausted batteries to fresh ones in just a second, the built in flash for emergency cases and the two modes for exposure sorrection.

ThoughtsFinally, Minolta has made a comeback with a pro-quality SLR. The only other Minolta I've owned is the 9000 with all the fixins. I think my trusty 9000 is getting a bit jealous. The 9 is a great camera in every way. Remember, it was Minolta that started the "auto" revolution way back in '84.

ThoughtsIt's a nice one. The auto focus operates in extreme light conditions. The handling is great. The mirror vibration is imperceptible. If you look and use this, one word occur to your mind: PROFESSIONAL. I am a happy owner of Dynax 9.

ThoughtsIt's a dynamic design from Minolta, they didn't want to struggle with Nikon & Canon Pro-Camera, but the functions of D9 are unique and totally outstanding on a real professional view. The AF are extreme, it won't be defeated by anyone. The outlook is back to future, however the performance are overexpected. I'm proud of being a Minolta Dynax 9 owner.

ThoughtsBuilt like a tank, best viewfinder bar none, great handling, very, very fast AF, and the usual reliable metering. Now with multizone and preflash metering, flash system still keeps its nose ahead of competition with its wireless capability. Plain 9 is a little heavy and only niggle about handling is the lack of the traditional P reset button. 3 AF sensor array, while covering 80-90% of photo shooting requirements, is still a disappointment with regards to coverage. Look forward to see what they come up with in future generations.

ThoughtsWonderful Camera. The features are easy to use. The mirror lock-up (2 second delay)really makes a dfference with longer lenses at slower shutter speeds. The camera can store exposure information with up to 7 rolls of film. The auto-focus seems fast and reliable. The 100% viewfinderis a nice feature and is extremely bright.
