| Pro | Great older film camera. I use it along with my 20D. EOS lenses fit both cameras. My model is EOS 1N-HS. Batteries (AA) last a long time. The quality is there and it will last as long as 35mm film is around! Exposure and focus is spot on with OEM lenses I own. |
| Contra | The only down side to this great camera is weight. Other film cameras weigh less and very few weigh more. If there was another it would be a shame if film was discontinued. |
| Thoughts | I will keep and use this fine instrument along with the digital stuff as long as I can get pro quality film!!! |

| Pro | Very strong, you can use it in every situation, it will never let you down. 100% viewfinder that is great if you like to develop your pictures with the black outline.
Great, great, great! |
| Contra | If the shutter could be as quiet as the eos 100! (or let's dream as the leica m6...) I'd prefer it to reach "only" 1/4000 of a second and be more quiet... |
| Thoughts | Great camera, not too expansive nowadays (for once I say thanks to digital...) I got mine second hand, almost never used, for 500 euros! I prefer to use it without the booster, it's not so heavy without it! (and you find 2CR5 batteries very cheap on ebay...)
I also prefer to use only one zone of the autofocus system, the one in the middle, so I don't see the use of 45 zones in the eos 1V... |

| Pro | Metering is spot on for me
Easy to use if you're familiar with the EOS system |
| Contra | I personally have no problems with this camera |
| Thoughts | For me this is probably my ideal camera. This replaced my trusty EOS 5 for a few reasons, the main one being i wanted 100% viewfinder. I use it usually with the PB-E1 booster attached, some find it heavy but to me it balances nicely.
Features wise it has pretty much everything I want, I trust the metering and as nice as a 1V would be, when I get around to getting a second body it's going to be another 1N. I love this camera |

| Pro | Sturdy, dust- and waterproof, still fast AF although system design 11 years old, bright viewfinder, shutter will last forever |
| Contra | slow and loud w/o the booster, center AF sensor is not cross sensor with lenses with a max aperure of F 4.0 and smaller, so with these lenses AF sometimes searches in very low light situations...(but who shoots in low light with a slow lens anyway?), buttons above display are almost impossible to press |
| Thoughts | It has been a while since someone posted an opinion for this camera and I think someone needs to say that even after 11 years this is still a very fast, useful, and sturdy machine. And it is not expensive to own one by now, so you automatically stop being fussy about your equipment (which can be very comforting). I have preferred it over the EOS 3 for diopter corr, sturdiness, 100% viewfinder and viewfinder shutter. The 1v is an improvement, but not by all that much. In terms of reliability, I don't think there is anything better than the 1n. This and a 50/1.8 is really all you need. |

| Pro | Built quality (it´s a tank although Canon used a lot of plastic-fibre).
Weather proofed (sealed controls).Very durable shutter (100 000 times in guaranteed by canon.A french magazine tested the shutters and they gived up at approx. 400 000 shutter releases). Fast AF (not so fast as Nikon F5 or EOS-3/1V - but fast enough).Technical features and simplified design. |
| Contra | Only TTL-Flash capabilities (not E-TTL). Some control buttons are hidden behind the palm door. Only one cross central sensor. |
| Thoughts | A Pro-camera for Pro-level photographer in action, landscape, sports and press photography. I would rank it over the Nikon F4 but below F5 - anyway it´s my dream of a durable and perfect camera. I love mine and will never sold it -especially not for digital junk. |

| Pro | Accessories abound for this camera. There are more than 10 focusing screens available. AA batteries in the PB-E1 last FOREVER. We're talking hundreds of rolls even with big telephoto lenses with IS. The evaluative metering gets the job done, but I generally avoid magical evaluative metering and go for spot metering if available on any camera. 6 frames per second with the booster is as fast as I need, even for motor-sports. |
| Contra | Heavy without the booster. Really heavy with the booster. It's also got to be the noisiest camera I have ever heard or used. The eyepoint is insufficient for me to see all of the frame and the exposure data at the same time. I have heard tell about a legendary eye-relief eyepiece for the 1 / 1N, but have yet to see it available for sale or even locate the catalog number. Can be a bit touchy about film loading. |
| Thoughts | I love this tank. It will be in my aresenal for years, although I have been shooting almost exclusively digital since April (2003). Anytime the conditions get lousy (i.e. heavy rain) this camera performs like a champ. I am still a little paranoid about using my 10D in anyting heavier than a drizzle. Sometimes you can scare people or animals with it - it's extremely loud (ESPECIALLY with the booster). Whenever I am afraid of the conditions I use this beast and the $69 Canon 50mm f/1.8 II and am confident that any abuse that would kill the camera would probably kill me too. Not quite as much of a tank as the 1V, though. All in all, after owning a Rebel XS, and then a A2E, the 1n was like a reward from heaven in terms of features and ruggedness. |

| Pro | Solid, fast, reliable. Can be used as an weapon in hard situations, if you don't have a tripod. |
| Contra | The vertical grip feels really bad compared to the one of my Eos 5 body, I wouldn't use it if I didn't shoot sequences on a regular basis and If the camera won't look so sad without it. |
| Thoughts | Dilemma: it is very loud and heavy, and that sucks, but that's also the reward for being so strong. |

| Pro | What you'd expect in a top of the line pro body. Everything from the metering to the construction and layout is excellent. |
| Contra | Can't do E-TTL flash metering, has only 5 AF points, but hey, this design is 6 years old! |
| Thoughts | I've used the 1N for 4 years, and this is THE most reliable AF body I've ever used (and I've used a heck of a lot). Of course, I still admire the Nikon F2 but hey, times change. |

| Thoughts | I've been using this camera since December 1999 and I love it. It is very durable, weather resistant and fast. My only complaint is the shutter is loud. I think it is the loudest. If you need to be quiet, make sure you hear how loud it is before you buy it. I'm glad I didn't buy its fancier cousin, the EOS-3. |
